ANAMBRA STATE POLICE TAKE PROACTIVE MEASURES TO REDUCE CRIMINAL ACTIVITIES IN THE STATE

Deputy Supritendent of Police Emeka Chukwuemeka

Criminal activities in Anambra State have reduced in the past year because of the effectiveness of the police. Sitting down with the Deputy Supritendent of Police, Emeka Chukwuemeka, he explained how the major crimes in Anambra state which are Armed Robbery and kidnapping have reduced and come down to a manageable state. The police in charge of security have come up with different strategies to ensure the state is safe. These measures include,  recruiting and posting more uniforms at different intervals in the state, deliberately giving out the number of the commissioner of police which makes it easier for cases to be reported and earning the trust of the citizens of Anambra state by maintaining confidentiality and protecting the identity of the informants.

The Supritendent went ahead to give us instances of cases that have been reported recently and are still under investigation. Some of these cases include a report on the 4th of February, 2014 stating that a day-old baby had been abandoned at Nkwo Amenyi. On getting there, the police discovered that the baby was already dead so it was deposited at the mortuary. Another case was on 6th February, 2014 when a police man at Okija accidentally fired at some persons. The suspect has been arrested and is being charged. DSP Emeka Chukwuemeka explained that police men work with arms but if they are careless or make mistakes, it calls for caution because lost lives cannot be reclaimed.
He also gave instances of other cases involving kidnap snd murder which have been solved.

He ended by telling us that with the resources available to them,  they are doing everything to ensure Anambra state is safe. He advised that students, especially, should be careful and avoid cultism and also to call the distress number 07039194332 which is open 24hrs every day, to report any abnormality or for general enquiry.

ORPHANAGE SCAM

With the high rate of fraudulent activities happening in the country,  it is no wonder that Nigeria has been ranked by Transpsrency Intentional as the 6th most corrupt country in the world. It is a shame that good intentions are now rewarded with atrocious acts.
Walking down the streets of the main markets, you'd see a bunch of old women (and sometimes men) in groups circling the customers and passersby with lists in their hands, asking them to "donate to charity". They come to you with puppy eyes and sad stories of how these children need people to take care of them and how you would be rewarded abundantly.

Yes, times are hard but sadly these acts only make things harder.
I had a run in with some of them at the market last week with their usual slogan "God loves a cheerful giver". At first I wanted to just hand them some money and walk away but then I asked the lady if I could get a picture of her holding the paper that had the orphanage's name and logo for my school's paper to help them promote the organization and she bluntly refused. In fact,  she rejected the money I already had in my hand. This led me to raise the question: are these orphanage homes and charity organisations real or are they just cheap rip offs?

VALENTINE SPECIAL

Oh! How I love Love!
The laughter, the togetherness, the fights and best of all the make-up. Valentine's day has always been about love. Sharing your day with your loved ones and people who need love. For me, everyday is Valentine's day(and I say this with a smile on my face) because I get so much love from everyone and everything around me and most of all from God.

I always have a Valentine song. You know, that song that comes out few months before Valentine and makes you think about that ONE PERSON that makes you smile and be all goo goo eyed . Last year it was Banky W's Yes/No. This year I thought it was going to be John Legend's All of Me but the song that stole my heart right before Valentine is Future's Real and True with Miley and Mr. Hudson.
"If love is all you need, I'm all you'll ever need."
If you haven't heard this song, you should. And if you're a hopeless romantic like I am, I'm sure you'll have it on replay all day Friday!

                                           MY IDEAL VALENTINE
First of all, I like to start the day with visiting the orphanage or any charity organization close to me. You know, spread the love, make them feel loved and appreciated. After that, the normal daily chores and boring stuff.... Valentine isn't always about spending too much money on the person you love (that's what birthdays are for. Lol!). It's about sharing that day and doing what makes your better half smile. It's about remembering and reminding him/her why you fell in love in the first place.

MOVIE NIGHT: I love going to the movies but since the cinemas are always packed full on the 14th, movies at home cuddled up with the boo, with popcorn, chocolates and a bottle of wine wouldn't be a bad idea. It helps if you have a projector at home, you could set it up, dim the lights and create your own big screen.

TEDDY BEAR AND CAKE: Most girls love teddy bears. I do too! A big teddy with a simple inscription "I love You" or "Always and Forever" would make any girl smile. Oh! And we love Cake too!  You can also have it written on a cake.
One time, I got a teddy bear, lots of chocolate and a sketched picture on Valentine. An artist can easily do a sketched picture of you two (you and your partner), frame it and have it delivered to you in no time.

JEWELLERY AND/OR SHOES:  "Diamonds are a girl's best friend"...shoes are a close second. We can never have too many shoes or jewellery. A beautiful pair of shoes or a bracelet or a neck piece (not necessarily diamonds) are good Valentine gift choices.

DINNER DATE:  A romantic dinner date in a beautiful restaurant is perfect for Valentine but a candlelit dinner at home is a wonderful idea. It must not be a difficult dish. It's the effort that counts.

WEEKEND GETAWAY: This Valentine is perfect because it falls on a Friday. So instead of having a special day, you can make it a special weekend. 3 days of loving! LOL! It doesn't have to be out of town and it can be cheaper than you think. Get away from the bustle and hustle of the long week and chill in a beautiful hotel room or somewhere cozy where you can both relax and be happy. You can have all the other gifts too during the getaway, if you're feeling extravagant.

These are a few things that can make Valentine special. Feel free to use these ideas or share your own. In all, just be happy. Whether you have a boyfriend/girlfriend or husband/wife to share the day with or whether you're single, it doesn't really matter because only you can truly make yourself happy. Pamper yourself, go out for a drink, hang with friends, do something fun! It's St. Valentine's day and it's a weekend!

P.S: These gifts could go either way. Yes! Guys love teddy bears too! Lol!
